Meta has rolled out its innovative AI feature, Imagine Me, to users in India across WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger. Designed to transform how users engage with AI, the feature allows individuals to create stylised, AI-generated portraits of themselves using simple text prompts.
How ‘Imagine Me’ Works
The feature is powered by Meta’s Emu image generation engine and leverages its advanced Llama 3 foundation model to personalise results. Users can activate Imagine Me through the Meta AI chat in any of the supported apps by typing prompts like “Imagine me as a superhero” or “Imagine me on Mars.” After initiating the feature, users are prompted to upload reference selfies from different angles to help the AI understand facial features and create customised visuals.
Once set up, users can send creative prompts to generate a wide range of AI images — from retro looks to fantasy settings. The output is deliberately stylised and non-photorealistic to ensure safe and responsible usage.
Privacy and User Control
Meta has built strong privacy controls into the Imagine Me feature. Users retain full control over their data, with options to delete reference photos, disable the feature, or manage AI settings at any time. The system also ensures that generated images are clearly artistic and not realistic enough to be misused for impersonation.
Availability in India
The Imagine Me feature is currently available to Android users in India, with an iOS rollout expected in the near future. Importantly, the feature is free to use and does not require any additional subscription or in-app purchase.
